The PAIN Process

‘The Pain Process’ is a framework that I developed to assist us with a clear step-by-step guide to acknowledge, process, express and transform our pains into gifts.

Pain can be physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual. If we do not tend to our pains, they can become stuck, stagnant and express themselves through illness, disease and suffering.

Coming together in community to tend to our pains creates an opportunity for co-regulation and connection. This decreases the shame and loneliness that many people meet when tending to their pains alone. It destigmatises and depathologises everyday feelings that we all experience, decreases the intensity of them and empowers people to feel more able to shift their emotional states instead of being victim to them.

Once we practice Intentional Creative Expression in community, we develop more confidence and motivation to also do this independently or when needed.

I also weave in the philosophy of Mettāmorphosis: (verb) cultivating unconditional love & loving-kindness whilst transforming — into these sessions.

What this looks like in real time:

  • 10am - Coming together.

  • P - Presence. I will do a short guided meditation to assist you to land gently in the space and in your body, to notice what calls your attention
    (Approx 15mins)

  • A - Acknowledgement. You are invited to acknowledge what is present, and to share - either through words, a movement, sound or a silent passing onto the next person.
    (Approx 10 mins)

  • I - Intentional Creative Expression. Each session will offer a different art-making prompt, with different materials.
We intentionally, and creatively express what wants to be expressed. This may be emotional pain, emotional pleasure or the parts within that we may not have the words for. This is done in silence, while April gives gentle prompts throughout to connect you to your process.
    (Approx 45mins)

  • N - Nourish. We close our circle and time together by noticing what the heart needs to feel complete.
    (Approx 10mins)

  • 11.30am - Parting ways.
